One of the countries that people move to is the United Arab Emirates since the country offers abundant opportunities and resources. Within Dubai, people often choose Dubai, since it is quite a promising place to start a new job.

However, it isn’t as simple as finding a new job and moving there; you need to go through a proper visa procedure to be granted a work visa or permit, which will actually allow you to begin the job. An important part of the entire visa procedure is document attestation.

What is a Work Visa/ Permit?

For any foreign national wishing to start a job in another country, they would need permission from the government of that country. This permission comes in the form of a work visa, and without one, you cannot be allowed entry into their territory for work. It is generally the employer that applies for it on your behalf, and in order for it to be approved, you need to specify the nature of work you’d be doing and must convince the authorities that you do in fact wish to move solely for work and for no other illegal reasons.

For any foreign government authorities to grant you entry into their territory, they must be absolutely certain of you are and why you wish to enter. Also, if you wish to move to Dubai with a long-term goal in mind, such as starting a new job, you would also need to use certain legal documents there, and for them to be valid, they need to be approved and stamped by different government and government-sponsored authorities. This stamping and verification of documents and certificates are what is known as attestation. Without your documents being stamped, you will not be granted the work visa, and so, it is highly important that you understand the entire procedure properly and follow it step by step to avoid being denied the visa or having to start the procedure again. Attestation Procedure for Dubai Job Visa

You need to have all the required documents ready when you go for attestation, and the main documents you would need are:

  • Personal Documents: These are documents that contain key information about you, such as your date of birth, place of birth, nationality, marital status, medical conditions, if any, etc. Personal documents include copies of your passport, birth certificate, death certificate, marriage and/or divorce certificates, medical certificate, etc. No matter why you wish to move abroad, you will need to present these documents or certificates.
  • Educational Certificates: Another set of documents that must be mandatorily attested are your academic certificates. These include your Senior Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC), High School Certificate (HSC), transfer certificate, Degree and or Diploma certificates, and other certificates pertaining to any courses you may have taken. The main purpose of attesting these certificates is to verify the information provided on other documents and also to get an idea about your educational background and your skills.
  • Commercial or Work Documents: Some of the most important documents to get attested when moving to Dubai for a job are your work-related documents. These include a Letter of Appointment from your employer, a signed contract if any, documents pertaining to any previous employments or work experience certificates, resume or CV, income certificate, etc. These must be provided to the concerned authorities since they are linked directly to the job you are about to begin, and in case you fail to present a required document, your work visa might be denied.

Besides the above-mentioned documents, you would also be required to present passport-sized photographs, additional identity proofs, and any other documents which the authorities ask for.

Attestation Procedure in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, UAE

When moving to any place in the United Arab Emirates, the attestation procedure remains the same. You need to follow a certain order when getting your documents and certificates attested since the stamp from a particular authority depends highly on whether your documents contain the stamp/s from prior authorities. In the event that you do not get the documents attested by one authority, you might need to begin the entire process all over again. The process is as follows:

  • Notary Attestation: It is the Notary Public in your state or city that must verify or attest your documents first. For this, you must go to the Public Notary office or the Collector’s office. Without a Notary stamp, no subsequent authorities will attest your documents.
  • Home Department/ HRD Attestation: Next, you need to get your personal documents attested by the State Home Department and your Educational certificates verified by the Ministry of Human Resource Development in your city or state. Once they stamp them, attesting to their authenticity, you must move on to the Ministry of External Affairs.
  • Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Attestation: It is a department of the central government and is responsible for overseeing all procedures and matters related to the country’s foreign affairs. This is the last agency of the home government, which needs to attest to your documents. Once that is done, you must get the Dubai Embassy to perform the attestation.
  • Dubai Embassy Attestation: Since you are seeking entry into Dubai territory, it the Dubai Embassy which needs to go through your documents and stamp them. Without the embassy’s approval, you will not be granted the visa. You need to go to the embassy in your city or state.
  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) Attestation: Embassy attestation would normally be the last step in the process, but since the Dubai is a Gulf country and is not a part of Hague Convention, you also need to get your documents attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Dubai. It is a government agency that is responsible for the foreign matters of Dubai, and since you are foreign national seeking entry, it needs to verify and stamp your documents. You, however, do not need to be physically present in Dubai for this step.

Once you are through with the attestation processes, you can move ahead with the rest of the visa procedure. Keep in mind to adhere to every criterion and requirement to avoid having your work visa/ permit declined.
